The ceiling of the Frost lights up in bright colors of purple, green, and orange. The exits are framed in mini orange lights and the musicians don a wide array of costumes. Children in their own costumes run from one end of the Frost to the other on an early trick or treating adventure. And meticulously practiced music echoes.
This was the AVPA Music Program’s second annual Fall Concert, themed Halloween Haunts. It happily spooked the listeners with performances from the Chamber Singers, Jazz Combo, Jazz Ensemble, Sax Ensemble, Orchestra, Pink Elephant Music Company, and Concert Band.
The crowd is a variety of ages all awaiting the socially acceptable Halloween frights in the form of well known songs. The musicians play haunting tunes the crowd knows by heart with fun and exciting twists. They take turns displaying the talents of a good handful of CCHS students and portraying how extraordinary the student body really is.
Beginning with the violin solo from Kate Perry and ending with the entrancing voice of Isabel Parra, the concert is ear catching and thrilling. The Chamber Singers perform a mash up of Little Shop of Horrors, Feed the Plants, Phantom of the Opera, Think of Me, and This is Halloween in one smooth sweep. Lead by Lauren Hayes the group harmonized beautifully, almost having the audience singing along from their seats.
The booming and creepy voice of Oliver Berliner was absolutely entrancing in his performance of Song of Black Max. And the solo performances from violinist Isabella Bustanoby and saxophone player Niko Vlahakis in the Jazz Combo were both extremely well done, earning major applause from the audience.
Overall the performance was brilliantly directed and rehearsed, ready for the audience to take in every note and key with their free candy, raffle prizes, and spooky costumes.
