"Puffs" Brings Magic and Laughter to the Kirk Douglas Theater

“Puffs,” AVPA’s 2024 play, was performed at the Kirk Douglas Theater from November 14-16. A comedic and sweet show, it follows the story of the "Puffs," the most overlooked students at a certain school of magic (Hogwarts), following Wayne Hopkins as he navigates years of excitement and action, learns what it means to be a hero, and discovers himself.

This show certainly had something for everyone, with jokes, touching moments, and many ties to the familiar world of Harry Potter. The small cast and intimate theater allowed for a very different experience than the big musicals at the Robert Frost Auditorium. Here, audience members could feel connected to the story and transported to the wizarding world. The cast members embraced the comedic nature of the play but also turned it into a compelling story. There were plenty of moments for laughter and jokes, but the play did not feel one dimensional.

The sets and costumes added the feeling of another world. The sets were whimsical, embodying what we all imagine when we think of the magical world that the show is set in. AVPA Art also collaborated, displaying drawings, paintings, and digital art of the characters in the lobby, making even the entrance to the play exciting.

This magical show captured the audience and brought laughter to all who went. “Puffs” was an entertaining show, with a cast who really embraced the comical nature of it, making it a great experience for members of the audience.
