A Look Into Upcoming Culver City Football
Culver City Football has made an important move from the Bay League to the Pioneer League for the 2026 season, reflecting the team’s performance this year. After a 4-6 finish in the 2025 season, the team ranked 5th in the Bay League but only went 3-1 against non-league opponents.
Last season produced many great accomplishments for the team. For example, the offense produced 896 total rushing yards, 456 of them coming from senior running back Langston Wilson. On the other side of the ball the defense averaged 2 sacks per game. A season highlight was the 48-0 shutout win over Lawndale for our Senior Night, the perfect way to send off CCHS seniors.
Just like for any other season, changes are expected for 2026, such as celebrating seniors who are graduating and moving on to the next phase of their careers. Linebacker Jordan Njoku received offers from New Mexico, San Diego State, Cal Poly, and Delaware State. He committed to the University of Nevada Las Vegas as a 3-star prospect and a top 90 prospect in California. At 6'3 and 225 pounds, he is a key signing for an already great freshman class at UNLV. Njoku had 102 total tackles this year, which was second most on the CCHS team. On offense, he had 3 receptions for a total of 31 yards for the Centaurs this year.
Looking forward to next season in the Pioneer League requires us to ask: is thisan upgrade? To break it down, the competition in the Bay League was too strong so we moved down a bit to a more fitting league, the Pioneer League, a different division of the CIF South Bay Athletics Association. The teams in this league are better matchups for CCHS, providing more exciting experiences and better games for both players and Centaurs supporting from the stands. Next school year, our team will face off against teams like North Torrance, South Torrance and Santa Monica. This move only applies to football, so CCHS athletes who play other sports will be unaffected. Students hope to see this change spark a new beginning for our football team and lead to many CIF titles.
A full slate of home games gives students repeated opportunities to be in the stands. The 2026 season brings 5 total home games, though only 2 of them will be Pioneer League games: first against North Torrance on October 16th and then Santa Monica on October 30th. These games will be crucial in deciding if the team will make CIF playoffs and in which division. This is where we need Culver students to show up! The more that students in the student section can bring noise and energy, the more exciting and fun the atmosphere will be for our students on the field.
