Get to Know Ms. Thompson!
Last year was Mr. Gyepes’ final year at our school, so some of our readers may be wondering: “Who is CCHS’s new counselor for last names S-Z?” Well, the answer is Ms. Thompson, and since it is her first year, she’s shared a little bit about herself with us.
Alexis Thompson was previously an elementary school counselor, and is now bringing her passion for working with students into the high school setting. She shared that she’s always wanted to work with kids, though at first she didn’t know in what capacity. Then in college, she thought about becoming a therapist. Finally, she decided to become a school counselor because it gives her “the best of both worlds.”
Her favorite part of being a counselor is building relationships with students. She loves hearing their stories, meeting them where they’re at, and helping them navigate their challenges. For her, these little connections are the most meaningful part of her job.
Coming to CCHS this year, Ms. Thompson also brings new goals for our counseling program. She personally wants to improve the sense of belonging for all students, making sure that school is a place where everyone feels welcomed. She is determined to help students feel supported and valued, even with all that is going on in their lives and in the world.
A few fun facts about Ms. Thompson are that she has a Disney pass and that she goes to Disney at least twice a month. In addition to this, Ms. Thompson also played college basketball at Simpson University in Redding, CA. Another interesting fact is that Ms. Thompson is also a children’s book author for a story called Piper Learns Others Can Too.
So if you’re a CCHS student and your last name is S-Z, make sure you stop by the counselors office, say hello to Ms. Thompson, and get to know her even more!
