Sophomore Class Council, run by President Kyra Doss and Vice-president Dahlia Alvarado, is a club here at Culver City High School whose main goal is to help the class of 2029 have the best high school experience possible. To meet this arduous goal, the club gathers every Monday in Dr. Yen’s room to share ideas and plan fundraisers. Last year, despite meeting weekly, the formerly Freshman Class Council struggled to get their footing.
Vice President Dahlia Alvarado remarked that “freshman year was definitely an adjustment” and that they “did [their] best to learn” from it. During freshman year, they hosted a Chicken King fundraiser, participated in the annual CCHS lip-sync video, and represented their grade at the Homecoming football game. Although this seems like a good amount of activity, Alvarado said that she was hoping there would have been a little more involvement: “I would have liked for us to do one activity or fundraiser last year so we could come into this year with an idea of what we wanted to do and what was feasible.”
However, Sophomore Class Council has already started this year off and running. On the 2nd of October, they hosted a successful bake sale after school, and have made it clear that they have no intention of stopping there. “We will be doing bake sales more often as well as a movie night at the end of October,” said Alvarado. In doing this, Dahlia and the club hope that when it comes time for them to plan prom in a year, they can “make prom tickets cheaper.” That way, they are one step closer towards their goal of creating the best possible experience for the class of 2029.
Although the Sophomore Class Council has leveled up a grade, they have also leveled up their drive and activity! If you are feeling inspired to join this incredible club and help them in their goal, you can find them in room 106 (Dr. Yen’s) every Monday during lunch. You can also stay updated on their progress by following their instagram @cchs.classof29. Your support will be greatly appreciated!
