Historic Season for Culver City Baseball
Culver City High School’s Baseball Team has just ended off their 2026 season with a bang as CIFSS Division 5 champions! Through countless moments that demanded perseverance and consistent determination, they were able to push themselves beyond their limits, marking a year to be remembered.
Though they had a rough start to their season, they were able to take what was thrown at them and turn it into a victorious year. Starting the year off they were down 0-6, a stretch that would take most teams down, but not this one. On top of that, they also had to deal with the challenge of coaches being fired. Instead of letting those setbacks define their season, they kept pushing themselves and working even harder. By putting in hours of practice and by staying committed, they were able to turn their season around. These efforts ultimately lead them to winning the CIFSS Division 5 Championships in a 9-8 game against Kaiser High School on May 30, 2026. Not only is this a huge achievement on its own, it also marked the first-ever CIF win in CCHS baseball history, a win that goes far beyond the trophy, representing how far they came and everything that they’ve proved throughout the journey.
Their postseason run continued into CIF Division 3 SoCal Regionals , with their first match up against Glendora High School. The game at Glendora opened with Culver City down 1-4, but they continued to fight their way through it. After the Centaurs pushed through and got ahead, Glendora tied it up 10-10 in the seventh inning. With the game staying tight, they eventually had to go into extra innings. With their momentum building up, the intensity of the game continued to rise. By the bottom of the thirteenth inning the Centaurs were able to take another lead of 11-10. But all of a sudden, the officials paused the game, calling it due to darkness.
“The lights weren’t even out,” says sophomore Teven Davis, “we could’ve just finished at that point.” But the next day they returned to Gendora, and even after their hour-and-a-half bus ride, they kept their heads up. Unfortunately, they lost 11-12, ending their run in regionals, yet still proving how much they were able to give.
While this ending may not have been one they hoped for, their season remains nothing short of remarkable. When asked to describe their season with one word, junior Ty Manell said “turbulent,” reflecting the ups and downs they’ve had to face., and how, even though their journey wasn’t easy, they were able to turn it into something truly historic. Through every challenge, their team chemistry played a major role in keeping them connected and focused, becoming one of the many reasons they were able to have the run they did.
This year will go on to be one marked in history, not only for their wins but for the resilience that set it apart. With so much growth and determination, we can’t wait to see what this team will accomplish in years to come!
