Seniors Get Ready for Their Big Day

Once again the Jerry Chabola Stadium will be filled with family and friends eagerly awaiting the arrival of the line of students ready to cross the stage for the annual graduation ceremony. Emotions will be high and the graduation ceremony will surely be anticipated.

The 2015 graduation will take place Friday, June 12, and will start at 6:00 pm. Each graduating student will receive six tickets at the senior breakfast. Only four more additional tickets can be purchased for $25. Tickets will go on sale Monday June 8.

But of course to graduate, seniors must complete all graduation requirements.

Students must meet the required 210 credits to graduate. All detentions must be served. Classes need to be passed with a D- or above, 60 hours of community service must be completed, and  the California High School Exit Exam must be passed.

Rehearsal  will be on Thursday, June 11 starting exactly at 9:00 am in the Robert Frost Auditorium. Attendance will be taken.

Students who miss any of these days must present a verified note from a doctor. Seniors who do not attend rehearsal will not be permitted to attend the graduation ceremony.

Many students want to stand out and look unique in their cap and gown, but there are still restrictions. There should be “no decorations or accessories on cap or gowns,” according to Asst. Principal Lisa Michel.

However, seniors still show up to the ceremony flared up in their own unique way. For example, students wear leis made from flowers, candy or even money. Caps are sometimes bedazzled with jewels or stickers.  Senior Jocelyn Orozco said, “I will be wearing accessories on my cap and gown.”

Once in awhile students ruin their chance to be a part of the ceremony that they should remember for the rest of their lives.  Severe discipline will preclude a student  from crossing the stage, “particularly ones at the last minute such as senior pranks,” according to Asst. Principal Kelli Tarvyd.

Grad night this year will be held in Disneyland Friday, May 15. Tickets have already been sold

Speaking at the graduation will be the ASB president, the school board president, the teacher of the year, and the valedictorian.

Soon the sound of  “Pomp and Circumstance” will be heard echoing through the halls as seniors practice for the big day.
