On the last day before Spring Break, next Friday March 21st, ASB will host the first CCHS Spring Fest since the pandemic! The event will take place on the grass field by the lunch patio from sixth period to 5pm. Sixth period teachers can sign their classes up to attend. There will be inflatables on the lacrosse field, and our school’s many clubs will be selling snacks, running free carnival games, and handing out free samples. The point of the event is to make it accessible to anyone, even if you don’t want to spend any money.
One of the highlights, which you may have heard of, is the Soak a Senior fundraiser! This one does cost money, however (prices have yet to be set). All CCHS students have been invited to nominate seniors to be soaked, and at Spring Fest, the seniors who received the most love on the nomination form will be soaked. Anyone can purchase different size cups of water to dump on the winning seniors, from a Dixie cup to a whole bucket of water. This particular event has been years in the making, first proposed two years ago, when the previous principal was not very supportive of the idea. However, Dr. Thomas, the current principal, has been. All proceeds go to a to-be-determined charity!
The idea for Spring Fest originated from this year’s successful Homecoming Tailgate which brought so many people and clubs together. To scale it up and make it an event in itself, while also making it easy to enjoy for free, seemed like the perfect way to create school culture and bring back an old CCHS tradition! CCHS actually used to hold annual Spring Fests since before 2000!
Today, Spring Fest has taken on a greater meaning. We’ve all noticed, or at least heard other people lament, the shortage of school spirit and school culture lately. We all go to CCHS, but other than that, there’s no pride in being CCHS students that connects us. Ten years ago, new teachers were struck by the school spirit here, so clearly something has changed lately. Maybe it’s a product of the pandemic, but who really knows? In any case, ASB has rolled out some amazing events this semester (the Talent Show, the Mind Madness tournament, and more) to help bring that school culture back.
As the ASB Commissioner Activities, senior Steele Gagnon hopes that he and ASB are, “building something students will love and will want to continue on.”
Spring Fest is an incredible event, and also a sign of everything ASB, admin, and all of us have accomplished since the pandemic, bringing our school, which was empty for so long, back to life. Drop by to have an amazing time and celebrate making it to Spring Break! Hopefully, this tradition will continue in future years!
