Girls Tennis Wins Eight Consecutive Games

The CCHS Girls Tennis Team went undefeated until September 21, when they lost to North Torrance after eight consecutive wins. On that Wednesday afternoon, the team lost 7-11, staining their perfect record and tarnishing their 14-4 victory from the week before.
The team’s loss can be attributed in part to the fact that many of their top players were out for injuries. When asked how the players reacted, CCHS Tennis Coach Rothenburg responded, “We have really good sports and girls with character and integrity and we know that losing is part of the game.” Despite their loss, the team is still pleased with their victory against West Torrance, which they hadn’t beaten in ten years. Furthermore, they reclaimed the victory from Torrance, which they hadn’t beaten last year.
Laura Bourne, one of the Girl’s Tennis captains, said the team had done so well because they had bonded. “In previous years, we were never really this close,” Bourne explained, “especially me, as a senior, and some of the other seniors. We kind of made a pact when we were freshmen and sophomores that we were going to be friends with underclassmen.”
This good sportsmanship helped them get second place in another tournament the week prior, along with the help of the new assistant coach Nick Murkinson, who has been helping out the team when not serving as a substitute for Global Issues.  Hopefully the team will keep up the good work and not be discouraged.
