Alright, Secretary Albright

Alright%2C+Secretary+Albright

On Wednesday February 6th, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright was interviewed by Larry Wilmore at the Robert Frost Auditorium as part of a tour to promote her new book: Fascism: A Warning.
Several high school students were able to attend by winning free tickets through a raffle organized by Mr. Valverde.
Secretary Albright is remembered primarily as the first female Secretary of State, though she also served as an ambassador to the United Nations and has published other books regarding her experience in politics. She is also known for her love of pins.
Secretary Albright spoke about her own family’s experience with fascism in leaving Czechoslovakia during World War II as well as her research about Mussolini in Italy, repeating his statement: “if you pluck a chicken one feather at a time, people won’t notice.” She noted how many terrible global events have occurred in the absence of the U.S. from the world stage and how the U.S. today has seemed to be retreating more into itself.
The topics in question were not exactly light-hearted. Still, the interview was made entertaining, on top of interesting, by the witty banter between Secretary Albright and Wilmore, getting rousing laughs from the audience.
Albright made it clear that while she began to write the book in the wake of the 2016 election, she in no way believes that the current President is a fascist. However, that did not stop she and Wilmore from poking fun of President Trump’s State of the Union speech from the day before.
With the reopening of the Robert Frost Auditorium, we can definitely expect many such exciting events to be held there in the future.
