For those wanting to do some exercise during quarantine – and maybe give back to the community – a charity run/walk event launched recently by CCHS cross country co-captain Ryan Washizaki might be just the solution.
The Culver City Virtual 3 Mile Run/Walk for Kids asks participants to go out for a three mile run or walk to any location of their choice. Runners and walkers are also asked to donate a minimum of $10 to a GoFundMe charity started up by Washizaki, from which proceeds will go to the Culver City Backpacks for Kids program.
According to its website, the Culver City Council PTA-sponsored program distributes backpacks containing “nutritious, child-friendly, easy-to-prepare food to chronically hungry children.” Serving 150 families a week, it’s a program that Washizaki hopes Culver City residents will help support.
Runners who want to submit their times can email Washizaki a picture of their time, along with their full name. Participants who submit will be provided a link to a spreadsheet with event results within 24 hours.
All times and donations should be sent in by August 9th. The link for the GoFoundMe can be found at: https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/culvercityvirtual3milerunwalkforkids
