AVPA’s Blurred Vision Theatre Company announced their fall play as “Puffs” by Matt Cox. The play will be at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Downtown Culver City on November 14-16 at 7:00pm and November 17 at 2:00pm.
This play is a comedic and heartfelt play taking place in a certain Wizarding World, centering around the adventures of Wayne Hopkins and his friends. Wayne learns that he is a wizard and is sent off to wizarding school in search of an adventure and heroic journey. Join us for a hilarious, meaningful, and magical show; “Puffs”.
After interviewing both cast and crew, it is easy to say that everyone is giving their all to making this show come to life. When asked about her acting process, Natalie Cayetano (who will be playing Megan,) said that she both enjoyed “embracing the silliness” of her character and giving her numerous layers, as she analyzed the “motivation behind everything [her character] does”. According to Emerson Jurentkuff, who plays Wayne Hopkins, the fact that Puffs was a comedy allowed for more traditional creativity, and wants the audience to feel “how much of a good time this show is” because despite being tied to the world of Harry Potter, it truly has something for everyone. According to stage manager Giada San Jose, “It’s more complex than any other show [she has] worked on” as each individual department of technical theater adds small details that make the production come together in a mosaic of beautiful collaboration.
The Kirk Douglas Theatre in collaboration with Center Theatre Group has taken it upon themselves to host this play within their own theater, collaborating with CCHS’s very own AVPA Theatre program for the second year in a row. According to Heather Moses, the CCUSD Arts Coordinator, we have had a “long standing partnership with Center Theatre Group” and through the hosting of fall plays CCHS is working on deepening that relationship. She also added that it is an important part of the career technical education aspect of AVPA theater to get to “be in different spaces [and] work with different people”. The members of the Center Theatre Group are graciously allowing Culver City High School students to perform on their stage, giving them new experiences and connections with the world of performing arts.
Be sure not to miss this magical event directed by Lee Margaret Hanson, in collaboration with Center Theatre Group, with technical direction by JD Sargent, stage management by Giada San Jose, and starring Emerson Jurentkeff, Natalie Cayatano, and Ryan Vermette. “Puffs” by Matt Cox will surely be a magical show, with general admission at $25, and the cost for staff, seniors, and students at $10. Come see the play at the Kirk Douglas Theatre on November 14-16 at 7:00pm and November 17 at 2:00pm.
