Are you having trouble finding somewhere to sign up for CP Flex? This year, teachers are offering a variety of creative and engaging activities during CP Flex, the weekly Wednesday session that allows students to sign up for different academic and extracurricular options.
Paige Shakeri, the CP Flex Coordinator, explains that this year’s focus is on ensuring all students find value in their Flex time. “Not all students seek help or support from teachers, so how do we make it meaningful for them, too?” Shakeri says. “I wanted to create opportunities where students could engage in something that resonates with them, whether it’s academic, creative, or something completely different.”
Shakeri also emphasized the importance of student ownership in the CP Flex process. “I really want both teachers and students to take charge of their CP Flex experience,” she adds. “Teachers are creating high-value sessions, and students have the freedom to sign up for what interests them.” She encourages students to bring their ideas forward as well, and is open to suggestions for future sessions.
Many extracurricular sessions have taken place so far this year. English teacher Penny Marino hosted a Baseball Trivia session during the World Series, and several teachers held Halloween themed sessions during the month of October. Robotics teacher Dennis Paniza organized a Finger Skateboard Contest, and there was a preview of the AVPA’s Puffs production.
In addition to teacher-led sessions, clubs have also been getting involved. La Fuerza hosted a series of events in honor of Latinx History Month, bringing cultural awareness and celebration into the CP Flex mix. These activities offer students a welcome break from the regular academic routine while providing opportunities for learning, creativity, and fun.
