Patched Together is a new club at Culver City High School that focuses on many different craft mediums. During their first semester as a club, they explored creative outlets such as sewing, embroidery, and friendship bracelets.
The idea for the club was sparked by the group’s shared interest in art. “I had always wanted to start a club, but I wasn’t sure what it would be about until I asked my friends, who are very artistic, and we decided to make a club that was craft-related,” said President Grey Hirahara.
The club meets every Wednesday at brunch in room 41. Members are encouraged to attend meetings as often as they would like and can take supplies for their projects home using the check out system.
Those in leadership emphasize the fact that anyone is welcome at their meetings. “We started the club because we wanted to have a space where we could provide the materials and time for people to create new things,” said Hirahara. As a result, Patched Together has become a safe space on campus for creative minds to collaborate on projects and learn new things about styles of arts and crafts.
Looking forward, the club plans on trying out additional crafting techniques in the future such as crochet, weaving, and macrame. At the end of this semester, the goal is to have a finished piece that each member was able to contribute to. “We want to assemble squares made from different mediums into a quilt and donate it to a charity,” said Cecille Tuccillo, who is on the leadership team.
