When you think about donating stuff, what’s the first thing that crosses your mind? Toys, clothes – maybe books? Well, something a lot of people don’t think of is donating hair. But why should you donate hair?
Hair donations go mainly to people who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy or due to a condition called Alopecia (an absence of hair). While this hair loss obviously affects how a person looks, it can also affect more than that. Studies have shown that when people lose their hair to cancer treatment, it can make patients feel sicker and have lower self-esteem. By donating hair, you can help boost the self-esteem of people affected by these diseases.
For most, the minimum amount of hair to donate is 6 inches and the donated hair can’t be damaged. If you are in this range of hair you should consider chopping it off and donating it to the place of your choice. When you look for places to donate, make sure you look into it and be aware of the pros and cons. If you do decide to chop off your hair and donate, I promise that you will feel good about donating to a great cause.
