Culver City High School’s homecoming dance on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021, at the lunch patio, was a major success. The theme was “Enchanted Odyssey,” and the patio was fittingly decorated with fairytale-like lights, leaves, and other small decorations that made you feel like you were walking through a well-lit forest with a flowy gown. The dance floor, which was the center of the patio, was lined with disco lights, with big speakers at the front that blasted a variety of tunes. Ranging from early 2000’s throwbacks to modern songs by rising pop artists, the diverse music list was composed of songs from Tame Impala, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Beyonce, Lana Del Rey, Doja Cat, and so many more.

The beginning of the dance was led off by a surplus of pop songs causing everyone around to engage in very energetic dancing, not limited to jumping, singing along loudly, and forming dance circles which harbored even more stimulating moves. As the evening turned into night, the songs transitioned from lively pop to a chill r&b, jazz, and slower songs. At this point in time, the dance floor was filled with phone flashlights waving in the air, and people slow dancing. Throughout the night, there were also tables filled with drinks and foods such as mini sandwiches, pasta salad, sugar cookies, and more.

The entire outside atmosphere was a refreshing mix of chatter, laughter, and dancing. The atmosphere inside the cafeteria was one of anticipation and excitement, caused by the photo booth that gave everyone free polaroid-like photographs on a strip, similar to the ones you would get at a fair or a theme park. The Homecoming Dance this year did not disappoint, and after the tumultuous year of the pandemic and consequent lack of social interaction; it was definitely a night to remember.
